Where do you buy your music (In Store, Online or Otherwise)?

Mike Leikin is a TuneCore Customer Support Representative

As a TuneCore Artist services rep I get frequent emails and calls about the different stores that TuneCore offers. With this is mind, I sent out a Facebook poll to find out where people shop for music and why.

I got a great response from this quick little question (thank you to all those who posted) and decided to extend it to the TuneCore newsletter.  Please feel free to post a reply or a comment on this page.  I will post the results in next week's issue.

Your input is greatly appreciated, see you on TuneCorner!

I buy all my music online, some digital and some physical. It’s been a long time since I’ve bought a CD in a physical store, due to the lack of selection in the genres I’m interested in and their higher prices. Whenever I do buy in a physical store it’s a used CD or record at a shop which specializes in used music with eclectic/diverse tastes (such as Amoeba in San Francisco) but even that is rare.

Oh, except I do buy CDs in person from buskers if I like them well enough to stop and listen for a few minutes.

The majority of my music is purchased through Amazon, either via the MP3 Store or by ordering cds from Amazon or one of their resellers (for out of print cds for example). Some tracks are exclusive to iTunes and if I really, really want them I will grudgingly buy there. I’ve bought several special edition items (cd/dvd plus booklet things) direct from the bands’ websites. I’ve bought 2 cds from Best Buy in the past two years for the exclusive tracks on those discs.

I download from iTunes or from a bands website. only if I really like the artist and the art of the CD do I buy a physical album.

I buy from itunes and the only place my music sells (beats for beginners) is on itunes, for some reason the other digital stores just don’t sell and i find it not worth selling on them. But i have not tried Beat Port yet.

My first port of call is always eMusic, followed by Amie Street. I also buy occasional major label items from 7digital or Anazon UK. The only time I ever buy from iTunes is if the item isn’t available elsewhere.

The only place close to where I live is a strip mall with a Border’s and a Best Buy. That where I shop for most of my music. Otherwise, I write, produce, and record my own. :)

Sadly, I have so-far bought many CD’s in used condition at secondspin.com–which is in no way a support of the artist, which is why I try to limit this from now on.
I usually don’t buy albums in-store because I found that prices are mostly horrendous here, at least when it comes to new releases (old ones might be cheaper than online). Amazon is generally THE store to buy music. Sometimes, but most often only when there are special deals, I decide to buy from the official stores. I also tried CDBaby.com and will do so in the future.
Recently I have bought my first entire album over iTunes, otherwise I buy single songs if I don’t like the whole album or I can’t wait for it to be on my hard-drive (I own many CD’s for my age (19), i.e. ca. 100, but copy them to iTunes and almost exclusively listen to the music from there).
    Cheers,
    Julian.

    1. illegal / torrents
    2. Amazon
    3. iTunes
    4. if I band has various options to buy music, and Bandcamp is one of them, I will always choose Bandcamp over any other. By far the best site out there for bands.

I normally shop online now as I do not have anywhere close to purchase music from. Lately I have bought mp3s from Amazon, rarely iTunes, but mostly now from Traxsource because I am a house music/electronic music artist and they seem to have a better selection and fair prices. Some of the stores I have signed up for here I am just now becoming familiar with so I have not had time to check them out yet. I also buy tracks from artists on MySpace if they are available.

Mostly I download my music online. In some sites I have registered for it. In addition sometimes I catch my music from iTunes. Amazon is also best one for music.
Well I did not know about tune corner. Thanks for sharing its nice information here. I will visit its site in future.

I am fond of playing musical instrument.
I am playing drums and guitar since childhood.
I have bought drums so many times in my life. I usually buy from the stores in my hometown.
